authentic settings in which students can polish their listening and speaking skills, including extracurricular activities such as Little Scientists, English board games, puppetry and drama.
4. Our Native-speaking English Teachers (NETs)
Our NETs help to cultivate our students’ English language skills and enhance their language competence by conducting regular Primary Literacy Programme - Reading and Writing lessons (Primary 1-2) and speaking lessons (Primary 3-6). Our NETs also provide a school-based phonics programme (Primary1-6) and help to conduct our English extra-curricular activities, including Little Scientists, English board games, puppetry and drama.
5. e-Learning
To enrich our English language curriculum and pave the way for our students to become autonomous learners, we have been infusing e-Learning into our lessons for all Primary 1-6 students. Students enjoy the interactive nature of the lessons, and they are gradually starting to direct their own learning so that they will eventually be able to learn autonomously.
The following are some of the e-Learning tools we use.
-
Quizlet
-
Kahoot!
-
Quizizz
-
Nearpod
-
Google Classroom
-

6. Life-wide Learning (LWL)
Mastering all four English language skills is undoubtedly important. At the same time, we believe that it is also important to extend our students’ knowledge and experience of other cultures and to enable their personal and intellectual development. Therefore, we strive to bring our students diverse learning experiences, for example through our extracurricular activities and our English Halloween carnival.
7.Primary Literacy Programme – Reading and Writing (PLP-R/W)
The Primary Literacy Programme – Reading and Writing was developed by the Native-speaking English Teacher Section of the Education Bureau. At our school we use a modified form of the programme specially designed to help our students excel in English. The lessons give students a solid foundation in phonics, which prepares them to become strong readers and writers. Reading skills are developed through storytelling, reading aloud, shared reading, guided reading, and independent reading to gradually give students more responsibility for their reading as their ability grows. Reading skills are also enhanced by playing exciting English games. Writing skills are refined through the use of shared writing and process writing. Students learn how to plan, draft, edit, revise, and publish a highly polished piece of work.
Diversified Learning Activities
Little Scientists
Our Primary 1-2 students have Little Scientist lessons which are conducted by one of our Native-speaking English teachers during our integrated learning sessions after lunch. In these lessons, students conduct interesting science experiments, and they develop their critical thinking skills so that they can become intelligent scientists.
Primary 1-4 and Primary 6 English Board Games
Our students are given the opportunity to play English board games during our integrated learning sessions after lunch. This activity enables them to learn English in a fun and authentic way. It also enhances their listening and speaking skills, and develops their communication and collaboration skills.
Puppetry Team
Participating in our school’s puppetry team helps our students to develop their creativity, communication and collaboration skills. It also enhances their writing, listening and speaking skills. Students work together with their teammates and teachers to create an original puppetry performance. In 2025 our team won second prize in one session of the puppetry competition organized by the Native-speaking English Teacher Section of the Education Bureau.
Halloween Carnival
On the day of our English Halloween carnival many students wear costumes, and we have a fashion show. We also watch a magic show, make crafts and play games. The Halloween carnival is a fun way for students to improve their English and to learn about Halloween traditions like trick-or-treating.
Spelling Bee
Our students have the opportunity to join a spelling bee as one of our post-exam activities. This friendly competition encourages students to improve their spelling skills. Students who are not competing in the spelling bee can test their own spelling knowledge while they cheer for their classmates.
